Butter Cookies

INGREDIENTS

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg, room temperature
2 Tablespoons orange juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 cups flour
Plastic Wrap
Parchment Paper

DIRECTIONS

Mix first 5 ingredients with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Gradually add flour and baking soda until well mixed. Divide and shape dough into 2 balls. Place each dough ball on plastic wrap sprinkled with flour. Wrap up tightly. Chill 2 to 3 hours in refrigerator until firm enough to roll with rolling pin. Pre-heat oven to 400 F. Roll out one ball of dough on floured surface 1/8" to 1/4" thick. Cut out with cookie cutters, sharp edge down. Place cut-outs on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. (If you can't find parchment paper - just use the cookie sheet UNGREASED) Bake 6-10 minutes until edges of cookies are golden brown. Remove cookies from baking sheet to cooling racks and let cool down completely. Dip or paint cookies as demonstrated on WGN Morning News.
